A fellowship program has been launched after a tri-nation alliance was signed between three developing nations viz India, Brazil & South Africa. The alliance opens doors for scholars from Brazil, South Africa to come to India.
The program is supported by Ministry of External Affairs and headed by Research & Information System (RIS). Two scholars each from Brazil & South Africa would be coming to India to work under the guidance of Foreign Secretary Shyam Saran. The program is named IBSA (India, Brazil, South Africa) Fellowship Program. The fellowship program would last from three to six months.
The fellowship program was launched by Preeti Saran, Secretary (East) in the External Affairs Ministry. She said “The three countries can work together on various issues and yield better results”.
Research & Information System (RIS) has set up a committee to select the scholars from the applications received. The scholars would be would be doing research on South-South Cooperation across a range of issues in India.
During the launch Shyam Saran said “This fellowship program would provide platform to the scholars of Brazil and South Africa to study new challenges like SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals set by UN) and the Paris Agreement”.
The next IBSA summit would be hosted by India in 2017.
