The two primary institutes responsible for monitoring teacher's education- State Council of Education Research and Training (SCERT) and District Institutes of Education and Training (DIETs), are set to witness some upgradation as decided by the Delhi Government.
Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, who is also the Education Minister took this decision in a meeting that was also chaired by him.
"Recognizing the primacy of building strong academic and institutional foundation for the series of reform initiatives in education being introduced by the AAP government, we have decided to restructure and strengthen the SCERT and DIETs," Sisodia said after the meeting.
Delhi government has taken the decision to upgrade and restructure SCERT and DIETs by raising the number of academic faculty positions from 240 to 600. In addition to this, the government has also decided to bring the pay-scales of the faculty at par with that of UGC so as to attract more talented people.
"In addition, we have also decided to open two new DIETs in Delhi. We will also offer diploma in Pre-School Education courses at all DIETs, and B Ed degree courses at three DIETs," stated Sisodia.
An expert committee will be setup by SCERT which will guide the entire restructuring exercise, along with the guidelines of the Ministry of Human Resource Development's centrally sponsored scheme on teacher education.
