Ryan murder case: Safety guideline issued to the schools by NDMC

All school principals have been directed to ensure that staff members reach 15 minutes before the scheduled opening time and leave the premises 15 minutes after the students have left.

Following the steps of the CBSE, North MCD has also issued a circular to the municipal school asking them to ensure the safety school children and to keep tight surveillance on the visitors of the school.

The directives have been issued by the CBSE and North MCD in the wake of Ryan murder case in which a dead body of class 2 students was found with his throat slit.

North Delhi Mayor Preety Agarwal said "the circular has been issuedto all NDMC-run education institutions to follow the instructions for safety and security of students keeping in view the recent incident."

In a statement, North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC), the mayor said, “All school principals have been directed to ensure that staff members reach 15 minutes before the scheduled opening time and leave the premises 15 minutes after the students have left. Besides, the principal would be responsible for any movement of teachers out of a school during duty hours”.

She further said that the students of primary classes are of tender age and need special care. Therefore, the principal of schools must ensure that teachers keep the mobile phone switched off and if need arises, the teachers should use the school phone only.

Apart from guidelines, Mayor also pointed some other precautionary steps such as:

  • Entry gates should be kept close after the beginning of the school
  • Staff members such as guards must not be allowed in the school if they don’t have the duty.
  • Vendors should not be allowed to sell eatables in the close proximity of the school
  • First aid kits must be available in the school and teachers should know how to use them

The Mayor said "details of a school van and drivers who bring mid-day meal to schools, and staff members and its helpers who serve the meal, should be recorded in a register.Relatives of any woman sanitation worker should not be allowed to enter the school premises to help her. Toilets of staff and students should strictly be separated".
