Jaipur,

The Rajasthan Technical University has slapped a penalty on its 30 affiliated engineering colleges for not complying with norms. The colleges were penalized for various things like not paying the affiliation fees, gross irregularities like admitting more students than permitted, not providing facilities required for teaching, overcharging fees and releasing salaries not in accordance with the 6th pay commission.

The four colleges penalized for Rs. 5 Lakh and above are Sriganganagar Engineering College (Rs. 13.80 Lakh), Maharaj College of Engineering, Udaipur (Rs. 13.80 Lakh), Siddivinayak College of Science, Alwar (Rs. 7.35 Lakh) and Sunrise College of Engineering (Rs. 5.50 Lakh). These colleges have not deposited the dues in the past few years.

The RTU has asked them to clear the dues or face de-recognition in 2014 session. “The penalties were imposed after they failed to react to our repeated notices. We have given them a stipulated period to submit the amount. The university will either decrease the number of seats or de-recognize them from coming session depending on the gravity of their non-complying” said an RTU official.

Most of these colleges are repeat offenders. They are regular charging fees from the students but always fail to pay it to the RTU. “Such offences have affected the financial health of the university which is dependent on examination fees and affiliation fees for revenue generation” said an RTU official.

The RTU has asked all its affiliated colleges to upload the names of its faculty members on RTU website to bring transparency in the system.
