It is good news for the scholars at Panjab University (PU). The vice chancellor, PU Professor Arun Kumar Grover in a recently organized function launched the digitized formats of the Doctoral Theses from Panjab University. The function was organized at the University's AC Joshi library on the 21st of April. These theses would now be available to all in the digital world on the Shodhganga repository.

Availability of the doctoral theses:

  • One can easily access the digitized these in the PU campus on the Varsity's intranet.
  • One can access the theses elsewhere through the Shodhganga repository on the internet.

Indian Express reported Professor O P Katare sharing his opinion. He said that putting the doctoral theses in the digitized format had been the dream project of the University. The motive behind such a format was to give access to scholarly content of PU to the research scholars all over the world. 

The objective of having the digitized theses:

The objective behind letting the things go digitized had been to bring in improvements in handling the theses and dissertations. Pursuant to this, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)had been signed with the Information and Library Network Centre (NFLIBNET), Gandhinagar in August 2015.

The MoU suggested that all the theses and dissertations submitted by the students and faculty in PU should also be available to the students of other universities registered under the project.

The launch function:

Vice-Chancellor, PU Prof. Dr. Arun Kumar Grover launched the digitized format of the theses and dissertations of Panjab University at the AC Joshi library in the University.

The function was organized in collaboration with INFLIBNET and Proquest India.

The other guests at the function were: Dr. Jagdish Arora, Director of INFLIBNET, Mr. O P Katare, Director of PU's Research Promotion Cell,Col G S Chadha PU Registrar (Retd),Professor Parvinder Singh, Controller of Examinations, Professor Naval Kishore, Dean College and Development Council, and Dr Raj Kumar, University Librarian.

The launching function was attended by more than 200 faculty members and research personnel from all over the region. A user awareness program had also been conducted on the occasion to make the visiting scholars aware about the accessing the papers on Shodhganga.
