Research and innovation needs to be promoted in order to stop the brain drain

Prakash Javadekar, HRD Minister, on Thursday urged on encouraging research in higher education in the country to ensure sustainable growth.

Instead of continues decline in the students opting for engineering as a career profession and low wages of the sector, both India and China have prosper in education sector.

Keeping the above trend in mind, HRD Minister, Prakash Javadekar, urged the higher education sector of the country to ensure that there is sustainable development and growth in the sector in terms of jobs and quality education.


The minister was present on the occasion of Ramdhari Singh Dinkar memorial.

Research and innovation are the key:

  • During his speech, Prakash Javadekar, stressed on the need of promoting research and innovation in the education.
  • He made this statement to the students and urged them to combat brain drain.

Statements from the Minister

"The progress India and China have attained over the last 30 years is due to reverse engineering and become cost competitive basically on the back of low wages. But that prosperity is not sustainable. The only answer is sustainable prosperity lies in innovation," Javadekar said.

"IITs will also jointly interview and pursue Indian students studying abroad to come back as faculties. The students will have research and consultancy freedom."


"So, we will avail good teachers, students and labs. We will give them Rs 75,000 per month Prime Minister Scholarship," Javadekar added.

He also stressed on enhancing the quality of education being imparted through schools and said "Imparting quality education to students is the gist of the learning outcome process. We have to keep striving for it."

He also told that government has also decided to set up best research laboratories in all the central universities of the country.
