On Saturday, DMK chief M Karunanidhi requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to postpone the exam in view of heavy rain and floods in Chennai and nearby districts. This was a day after the Centre announced that the Union Public Service Commission would conduct civil services (main) examination at 23 centres from December 18 to 23.

Karunanidhi wrote a letter to Modi, saying that he (Modi) has personally inspected the flood- affected areas in Chennai, i.e. he is fully aware of the situation there due to heavy rainfall and sudden floods. He also highlighted the fact to PM that about 1000 students are preparing for the exam and are still facing continuous problems due to the rain which started in November end and continued till December.

He also said that a written representation was enclosed by Students of the state-run All India Civil Services Training Centre, Chennai, for Modi to take urgent action regarding the exams. They met Karunanidhi on Friday.

Finally, he urged Modi, after fully endorsing the representation to sympathize with the students and to postpone the main examination as they are facing practical problems and difficulties.
