The government on Friday said that the quality of education
is declining both in public and private schools and there is a need to improve
the quality.
Finance minister Arun Jaitley said today that there is a need to improve the quality so that enrollment in government schools can be increased and to improve the educational outcomes in both public and private schools.
The economic Survey 2015-16 revealed that increase in investment in human capital could solve this problem. There is a need for professionally qualified and trained teachers.
During 1991 to 2013, the proportion of economically active population (15-59 years) has increased from 57.7 per cent to 63.3 per cent.
The survey pointed that in order to achieve desired results, investment in social infrastructure needs to be boosted.
Also, innovation ad adoption of modern technology will be a great idea like by leveraging Jan-Dhan Aadhaar Mobile (JAM) scheme to improve the efficiency in delivery of services.
According to Annual Status of Education Report 2014, there is sharp decline, in 2007 to 2014 in the number of children in Class V who can read a textbook of Class II, in both government and private schools. This shows that the educational level is declining.
Apart from this, gender parity index is improved i.e. an improvement in girls' education, with parity having been achieved between girls and boys at almost all levels of education.
