The pre-primary kids in the government schools of Punjab will soon be assessed on the basis of activities under the project ‘Padho Punjab, Padhao Punjab’, said The State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT).

According to the letter released by the SCERT, the pre-primary students will be assessed thrice a year-- July, November and March. The orders further clarify that teachers can only give positive remarks on the report cards of the students and it must be shared with the parents.

In November 2017, the Punjab government has claimed that it has become the first state in the country to introduce ‘pre-primary playway’ classes for the students between the age group of 3-6 years.

The orders were issued on Friday and strictly said that students can only be assessed on the basis of teacher’s observation and this observation needs to be carried out for 15 days for each child during the playful activities.

Children under the assessment will be assessed on five parameters:

  • physical and mental fitness
  • social and moral development
  • intellect development
  • basic language
  • mathematics learning for beginners

Apart from the above mentioned, there are some new points which have been added to assess the children under the scheme and they are:
