A Vidhan Sabha committee in Punjab suggested the idea of dropping the word 'govt.' from the government schools in order to improve their image. They further suggested renaming the schools after famous personalities such as freedom fighters, martyrs and renowned personalities.
The committee consisted of 12 MLAs from Congress, SAD and AAP presented its report on Wednesday in which the suggestions were made. In the report, the committee also scrutinized the Punjab Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Rules, 2011.
According to the committee views, the level of education has fallen so low in the Government schools of Punjab that it's an insult for a family to send their children to government school for studies.
“The committee, therefore, desired that the department may change the names of government schools after the names of freedom fighters and renowned personalities…,” the report states.
The committee also made a bizarre suggestion which stated that persons who have studied for at-least five years before completing their 10+2 level of education in the government schools should be eligible to apply for the government jobs.
