Rashtrapati Bhavan's sustainability initiative, Roshni Prachodaya Society ("Roshni") and India@75, a grassroots initiative for realizing the dream of an inclusive, sustainable and developed India by 2022, will usher in a new phase in raising public awareness of environmental issues on May 30th when their combined efforts will result in H.E. Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil, the President of India unveiling a new logo for Project "Roshni" with the participation of school children across India, thus heralding engagement of youth in environment matters.
In a special ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan, on Wednesday, May 30th , H.E. the President of India will select a winning logo from the 3276 entries, submitted by the schoolchildren across India, inspired to create a logo which encapsulates Roshni's core aims of environmental management, empowerment of local communities and the creation of eco-friendly sustainable urban habitats in India.
India@75 and Roshni Prachodaya Society entered an MoU on September 8th, 2011. The Roshni Logo competition is the first step under this MoU with an aim to universalize the concept of Roshni and to sensitize students towards sustainability, inclusion, environment preservation and conservation.
The Roshni logo competition, run by India@75 between February 1st and April 15th, reached out to schools across the country with the objective to ignite the imaginations of school children around environmental sustainability issues at an early age. India@75 reached out to 10,480 schools; approximately 10.48 Million students were made aware of the project and over 31.44 million people were sensitized in this large outreach campaign. A total of 455 schools responded with 4081 registrations and 3276 final entries, which will be on display at the Rashtrapati Bhavan from May 28-30th for selection of the winner, and will then be open for public viewing from May 31st to June 2nd.
The Honorable President of India will inaugurate the logo exhibition at 11:30 am on May 30th. Participating schoolchildren from Delhi NCR and members of Roshni from the President's Estate will attend the function. The exhibition will showcase all the entries, from which the Honorable President Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil will select and announce the winner. The new logo will be adopted by the Roshni Prachodaya Society with immediate effect.
