Emphasizing the importance of values in education, on December 23, President Pranab Mukherjee, (an education enthusiast), said that education needs to help in building character. It can really help in creating the spirit of peaceful co-existence and how we can accept diversity. He said that it's not to just put it in the minds of student but through education, their character needs to be built.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the sesquicentennial (150 years) celebrations of Bishop Cotton Boys' School in Bengaluru, he added that education is the source for looking after our culture. It helps in accepting diversity and for peaceful living. The president said that education builds rationality of mind in people and helps in developing scientific temper, according to reports of PTI.

Mr. Mukherjee suggested that school should build in their students love for their motherland and instill in them their commitment to society through education. He congratulated the founders and management of the school for completing 150 years successfully and their service towards education.

President Mukherjee said that education needs to be easily accessible by all and we need to make sure it's affordable with quality. He said that students should develop a scientific temper and education needs to inculcate among the students the ability to build relationship with society.
