Recent study proves that students from Karnataka are
intelligent as all three top ranks in PGET 2016-17 were bagged by them. In
January, a test was conducted by the Consortium of Medical, Engineering and
Dental Colleges of Karnataka's (ComedK) where four of the top ten rank holders
were from Karnataka.
First three ranks went to students from other states in PGET (dental), however, out of first 10 rank holders, three are from Karnataka.
On Thursday, PGET results were out which is a gateway to postgraduate medical and dental courses in private colleges in Karnataka.
Rachel Alt hea Sequeira from Goa secured first rank in PGET (dental).
212 students in PGET medical and 117 in PGET dental are from Karnataka out of first 1000 rank holders.
As per the statistics, For PGET (medical), 1, 65, 777 students took the test and for dental 4,462 students appeared with 50% and 44% students qualifying respectively in ComedK's medical and dental tests. The chief executive of ComedK, AS Srikanth confirmed that the quantum of fees and counseling dates would be notified soon and a separate set of counseling documents detailing the procedure of participating in the ComedK counseling would be made available shortly.
PGET was held on January 17 at 141 centres in 72 countries and for more updates, candidates can contact ComedK's website regularly.
The first rank holder Rachel Althea Sequeira (24) is an MBBS student of Kasturba Medical College, Mangaluru. She also secured 42nd rank in entrance test to AIIMS. She said that her mother had been supportive of her and inspired her. She wants to pursue General medicine but will shortlist colleges once once the results of other entrance tests are out.
Another dental graduate from Goa Medical College, Siddharth Datta Bandodkar secured first rank in PGET dental and fifth rank in the All-India PG Dental Exam and 14th rank in the test for All-India Institute of Medical Sciences.
He said that he was surprised by the results and has achieved this due to hard work. He moved to Davanagere for a year of coaching under Dr Raison Thomas for the All India Post-Graduate exams after completing his dentistry and internship. He worked hard by studying 10 hours each day and solved old papers. He wants to pursue prosthodontics in the best dental college but it all depends on counseling.
