One of the oldest institutes of higher education in the country, the BHU or Banaras Hindu University is the pinnacle of education in India. Lakhs of students aspire to enter BHU each year. Representation at BHU means a lot to any community. Therefore, there are frequent demands from various communities and languages for inclusion in the BHU. Now, another similar demand has come into the light.
An Oriya Chair at Banaras Hindu University (BHU) for teaching and learning of Oriya language to be established by the government of Odisha soon. The Odisha minister of higher education Pradeep Kumar Panigrahy while attending the programme of 81st Utkal Dibas (Odisha foundation day) organized by the Varanaseya Utkal Samaj expressed his desire for the same.
He wants establishment of Oriya chair in BHU and academic collaboration between academic institutions of Odisha and BHU and to ink a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between BHU and Government of Odisha in this regard.
To this, the BHU VC said that support of Odisha government in the research works on ancient culture and folk arts of the country will be needed. He welcomed this proposal and appraised the minister.
