The decision to keep or do away with ‘NO Detention’ Policy upto class VIII has been left on the discretion of the states. Many states may soon overturn the ‘No Detention’ policy.

The following decision was among a few of the decision taken on Tuesday during the 64th CABE (Central Advisory Board of Education) meeting in New Delhi. The meeting was chaired by HRD minister Prakash Javadekar.

In the press conference held after the meeting the minister said the centre will soon bring an amendment which will give freedom to states to review the ‘No Detention Policy’. The recommendation had come from the sub-committees constituted by CABE.

CABE is the highest advisory body in the country for school education. The HRD ministry will now take the matter related to reviewing of the ‘No Detention Policy’ to the cabinet.

64th CABE (Central Advisory Board of Education) meeting in New Delhi which was held on Tuesday was attended by Union ministers Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Vijay Goel. Representatives from the states and union territories including education ministers of 21 states were also present for the meeting.

Some of the key decisions taken in the 64th CABE (Central Advisory Board of Education) meeting were:

  • There would be accountability of all stakeholders including teachers for improving learning outcomes.
  • All the untrained teachers need to be trained in the next 5 years.
