On Thursday, the HRD ministry confirmed that no decision has
been taken to amend the Right To education (RTE) Act. Further, issues related
to the no detention policy are being examined by a committee working on the
evolution of New Education Policy (NEP).
This was said in a written reply by Smriti Irani to a question in Rajya Sabha stating that no decision has been taken yet.
Smriti however said that issues related to no detention policy were discussed while consulting with the state governments for formulation of NEP
18 states have given their views and suggested some modifications to the no detention policy, confirmed Irani.
Irani said that suggestions for the NEP have been received from stakeholders across the country and wide consultations have been held. 30 minority institutions have given suggestions on NEP.
Under the chairmanship of former Cabinet secretary TSR Subramanian, the HRD Ministry has set up a committee for formulating the NEP. It will submit its report by this month end.
