The lack of Braille textbooks in the state of Odisha have forced the visually impaired college students in the state to depend on either assistants or the audio tapes.
A second year student of the Khallikote Autonomous College in the city was quoted saying "We are facing much difficulty to prepare for examinations due to lack of braille books. Quite often, we are unable to pick up what reading assistants dictate to us,"
According to Bijay Kumar Rath, member of the state's blind society, this problem is affecting over 200 students in the state.
The entire state has just one solitary Braille press.
Prakash Narayan Rath, manager of Louise Braille Press said that printing such books is cumbersome as different universities following completely different syllabi.
He also added that "We will try to produce textbooks for college students from next year as the government has decided to make syllabus uniform for universities,"
