National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) will release Indian Ranking 2017 today. These ranking will be released by HRD minister Prakash Javadekar through a press conference. NIRF was approved the MHRD and then was launched on September 29 2015. It is a framework whose responsibility is to come with a set of outlines in order to rank the institutions across India. Based on the outlines, the first edition of Indian rankings was released on April 4th 2016.
The methodology is based on the broad parameters as decided by the Core Committee, which is set up by the Ministry of Human Resource Development in order to rank various Indian institutes and universities. These parameters broadly cover the following categories:
- Teaching, learning and Resources
- Research and Professional Practices
- Graduation Outcomes
- Outreach and Inclusivity
- Perception
But according to the reports this ambitious project of the HRD ministry has gathered cold response from the educational institutions as this year there are 800 less participants in comparison to the last year.
"For the 2017 rankings, the main parameters have remained the same. However, there are a few significant changes in a few sub-parameters. Also, this year every large institution will be given a common overall rank as well as a discipline specific rank as applicable," a senior HRD official told.
The official also said "the stringent norms of NIRF ranking methodology as the reason for the cold response in the participation from the educational institutions. He also said that some institutions have not been maintaining the data sought by NIRF for the analysis and that would have also caused the lesser participation. They may participate in coming years."
