In order to highlight what New Zealand institutions have to
offer Indian students, Education New Zealand (ENZ), the lead government agency
for international education conducted its first university roadshow in Pune.
New Zealand is a preferred educational destination with all universities in the top three per cent of universities worldwide. For students who want to study abroad, it's a safe and welcoming country.
Through this roadshow, New Zealand universities got an opportunity to engage with principals and student counsellors of prominent Pune schools telling them more about the engineering and management courses available at their institutions.
The country manager of India, Education New Zealand, Jugnu Roy shared its view by saying that Pune is a top priority. Many students are eager to study in New Zealand but they lack knowledge about the country and its educational institutions, so the roadshow helped in solving this problem. He further added that three of the ten awardees of the prestigious New Zealand India Sport Scholarships were from Pune as well as the overall winner of ENZ's recent marketing and strategy competition.
The area manager of immigration New Zealand, Nathanael Mackay spoke about immigration guidelines for students wanting to study in New Zealand. He said that Pune has high quality students and in order to encourage them to study in New Zealand, they have introduced a new Pathway Student Visa which allows for a more seamless study experience. Due to this, students can opt for three consecutive programmes of study with selected education providers on a single visa that are valid for up to five years.
During 2014, Indian students enrolling at New Zealand institutions amounted to 20,227 making India the second largest source of international students to New Zealand. This increased by 20% in 2015. Immigration New Zealand processed a range of high quality student visa applications from Pune with close to 90% approval rate.
