New Zealand has tightened its VISA rules. In the last 5 months the country has reduced issuing the VISAs to Indian students by almost half compared to same period last year.
New Zealand has issued 3,102 in the last five months vis a vis 6,462 issued last year in the same period.
New Zealand’s public broadcaster ‘Radio New Zealand’ reported that “too many students of India arrive in New Zealand with too little money to support themselves and too little knowledge of English”.
The spokesperson of the Auckland International Education Group said that “It is Ok to tighten the norms on English requirements, but in many cases it is not clear why the VISA is being denied. Students that would have been given VISA previously are being refused and it is quite strange”.
Spokesperson from the Independent Tertiary Education New Zealand said that “good institutions might cope with the move but many institutions will go out of business”. He added “the number of VISA being issued was lower as compared to the caliber of the students”.
Spokesperson
from New Zealand said that “we are doing this to focus on the things which are
necessary”.
