The entrance to super specialty medical courses will be centralized with effect from 2017 under a single name called NEET – National Eligibility Entrance Test, which will be conducted across the country on June 10th, 2017.

This examination would serve as a single assessment point for any DM/Mch/PDCC aspirants across India and would be administered by National Board of Examination which is an autonomous organization established by the government with the prime objective of conducting post graduate examination across the country.

National Board of Examination, until now has been conducting NEET( PG) exams for MD/MS/PG diploma admissions, NEET MDS and All India Post Graduate Medical examination. With this latest announcement from the Health Ministry NEET – SS exams would also get added under their umbrella.

A statement made by the Health Ministry laid out the modalities of the exam, mentioning it to be having 200 questions of multiple choice, chosen from the MD/MS syllabus as prescribed by Medical Council of India which is followed across colleges. The exam would be computer based. The statement also clarified that any other examination conducted by any University, Medical college or Institution under state level or institutional level would be invalid as per the Indian Medical Council Act of 1956, with effect from 2017.

This amendment has been viewed as a welcome change even among the medical fraternity and is viewed as a strong move which would plugin any loopholes of corruption in the system. One of the medical fraternities, Dr. Sadanand was of the opinion that if the results are declared immediately and any Interview process post exam banned, then this could prove as an excellent move by the Health Ministry.
