A candidate can only appear for the NEET exam three times

It is expected that Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will release the notification for NEET 2018 exam in last week of January. In 2017, the online registrations were commenced on January 31 and continued till March 1.

The exam was conducted on May 7.

Below are the various important details (tentative) about the exam

Classification of seats

  • All India Quota
  • State government Quota
  • State/Management/NRI quota seats in private medical/dental colleges or any private/deemed university central pool quota seats

Eligibility criteria
Candidates who wish to appear for the exam must have passed the class 12 or equivalent exam with physics, chemistry, biology/bio-technology and English individually. Also, it is compulsory that the candidate has obtained minimum 50 percent marks combined in physics, chemistry and biology/bio-technology in qualifying examination.

Aadhaar card requirement

Aadhaar card is required when registering for the exam. This is however, not applicable to candidates of Jammu and Kashmir, Assam and Meghalaya. For NRI candidate's passport number is required.

Age limit and attempt criteria

A candidate can only appear for the NEET exam three times. Therefore, candidates who have appeared for the exam in 2017 have only two more chances.

The maximum age limit is 25 years. However, many students protested against the rule and filed several petitions. The criteria for age limit will become clear with the release of the official notification.

The exam is conducted in several languages including Hindi, English, Gujarati, Marathi, Oriya, Bengali, Assamese, Telugu, Tamil and Kannada.
