The NCERT is of the view that the current textbooks do not highlight the contribution of our heroes enough to influence the young generation.
To rectify the same, it has decided to come up with 'Veergatha', a series which would highlight the lives of our national heroes.
The decision to launch Veergatha was the outcome of the 52nd General council meeting of the NCERT which was held on 3rd January 2015. Presided over by the central HRD Minister, Smt Smriti Irani, the meeting was attended by a number of well known academicians and the state education ministers.
Irani was of the view that the NCERT must collaborate with the defence ministry to compile a book on the lives of the heroes who laid their lives in the honour of the nation. The book would especially highlight the contributions of the women heroes of the country.
She also invited the states and all the other stakeholders to come forward and provide their valuable suggestions in shaping up the new education policy. She encouraged NCERT to team up actively with the states in order to reform the NEP and the curriculum.
The discussions are scheduled to be completed by the month of August and the report on the same needs to be published by September 2015.
