The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) is all set to include QR codes in their respective textbooks. The main aim of the codes will be to provide access to the students to the additional study material (digital) associated with a particular subject.

Quick Response (QR) Code is a machine-readable code which consists of an array of black and white squares, which is used to store the web-links or other information. The code is readable by the camera on the smartphone.

“We have started the process of identifying relevant supplementary material including videos, animations, powerpoint presentations, maps and e-content,” a senior NCERT official said.

“These will be mapped with the content of each textbook from class 1 to 12 and will be linked with QR code, which will be printed in the textbooks,” the official added. The codes will be introduced with the commencement of the academic session 2019.
