The ill effects of ragging can't be stressed upon enough. While it may be fun for some, it can have disastrous effects on the others. Although stringent rules have been put in place to check the offenders, a considerable number of cases still emerge each year on a regular basis. More than 60 instances of ragging have been accounted for in the Medical universities in the nation in the most recent four years, government said on Friday.

"According to the data put together by the Medical Council of India (MCI), a few instances of asserted ragging and passing of students have been accounted for to MCI.

"A percentage of the cases answered to MCI in the most recent three years including this year are 7 in 2011-12, 12 in 2012-13, 23 in 2013-14 and 22 in 2014-15," J P Nadda, the union Health Minister said while speaking in the House of the people.

So as to check ragging in medicinal schools, the Center in interview with MCI has confined MCI (Prevention and Prohibition of Ragging in Medical Colleges/Institutions) Regulations 2009.

According to the regulations, every medicinal school are obliged to constitute hostile to ragging advisory groups which are "commanded to avert ragging and make suitable move under regulations in the occasion of any rate of ragging", Nadda said.

Answering to another inquiry, the wellbeing pastor said that his service has gotten 91 proposition for setting up of medicinal universities in 2015-16 while seven recommendations have been gotten for dental schools.

So far in 2015-16, consent has been allowed for 15 medical schools and two dental universities. Out of the 15, ten are government schools while both the dental universities are private, Nadda said.

On another inquiry, Nadda said that as per an ICMR's National Nutrition Monitoring Bureau review in ten expresses, the pervasiveness of overweight among rustic men and ladies (2011-12) was pretty nearly 12 and 16 per cent separately while among tribal populace, it was 3% for men and ladies.

He said that the predominance of overweight and corpulence among country youngsters was only 1 to 2 per cent.
