CHENNAI: There is a huge difference between the number of medical aspirants in the country and the total number of medical seats in different colleges in India. This causes a huge rush at the times of counselling.
The directorate of Medical Education has now announced that application forms will be issued from May 9 for admission to MBBS and BDS courses in medical colleges in Tamil Nadu for the session 2016-17.
Students can download the application from the website - tnhealth.org "“ and submit them by 5pm on May 27. The expected date for the announcement of merit list is June 15 and the first phase of counselling will be held in the month of July. The classes will start on August 1.
R Vimala, Director of Medical Education, declared that the numbers of sanctioned seats available are same as last year. A total of 2,655 seats are available in 20 government medical colleges out of which the state quota comes up to 2,257 seats while the remaining 398 seats are allotted under the all-India quota (15%), addressing reporters.
The single government dental college in the state is allowed to admit 100 students at the max, of which 15 seats will be set aside for AIQ.
Likewise, the sanctioned strength in eight self-financing colleges is 1,010 seats of which 595 seats are up for grabs under the state quota while 65 of the sanctioned 100 seats under ESIC medical college, Chennai, will go to the state quota.
Important deadline: Applications can be downloaded till 5pm on May 27.
