ith each passing year, the importance of physical education is being increasingly felt across all the levels of education. The CBSE has now taken a concrete step in this regard. Recently, CBSE announced to bring back the board exams for class 10th students. Now the board has come up with the guidelines for the same. The board has said that subjects such as NCC, yoga and sports must be given a push in the schools in order to ensure increased physical fitness, patriotism and discipline.
The board also made it clear that although these are being made a compulsory part of the class 10th curriculum, the grades of these subjects won’t be included in the overall assessment of the students.
The board sent a notification in this regard to the schools. The notification said "Indigenous sports, yoga and NCC must be encouraged in the schools creating a sense of physical fitness, discipline, sportsmanship, patriotism, self-sacrifice and health care. These activities will be graded on a 5-point grading scale (A to E) and will have no descriptive indicators."
As per the new model introduced by the board, about 20% of the assessment would be internal while the remaining portion of the assessment would be with the help of the examination organized by the board. In order to pass the subject, the students would need to score 33% marks in that particular subject.
The notification also says that the students should be given the opportunity to undertake professional training in their interest area and a proper timetable should be put together for all these areas of interest.
