CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) takes action as parent community of various schools wants the schools to disclose their detailed financials. The parent community has been joyous after CBSE had asked all the schools to disclose detailed financials effective November 3, 2016.

In a survey conducted by LocalCirlces engagement platform, 89% of the citizens wanted that schools should disclose their detailed financials on their websites. And the same should be implemented on priority.

81% of the respondents want a regulatory body should be created for controlling the school fees. As of now education bodies like CBSE cannot regulate the fees directly.

In a survey which was conducted on more than 10,000 people, 73 percent said that the schools with profit objectives should be categorized as companies instead of trusts or societies.

Parents were also asked “What should be the basis of Fees Hike along with the quantum of hike”?

In some of the schools the fee hike has been as high as 40%.

41% of the respondents said that the fees hike should be linked to inflation, which is currently 6-7%. 20% said that the hike should be capped at 10% per annum, while 15% said the fees hike should be linked to the hike in salary by 7th pay commission.

In a statement issued by the LocalCircles said “We hope that CBSE would look into the concerns raised by the parents and take seriously the need of a fees regulator, which will enable organizations wanting to set up schools for profit.” The statement also said that “fees hike should be linked to inflation and should not be raised in random and abrupt manner”.
