The state government of Maharashtra has finally launched an enquiry by the CBI and the ACB into the alleged Rs 4,000 crore scholarship scam. The scam involved misuse of funds which were originally meant for the scholarship fee of backward class students.

Speaking on the floor of the state assembly, Dilip Kamble, the minister of state for social justice said that the backward class students would be given timely justice in this matter.

According to him, the colleges would be directed not to charge any fee from such students until the scholarship funds reach them.

The state's CM, Devendra Fadnavis has already directed an enquiry into the matter, the minister said.

He also said that the creamy layer limit for the backward caste has been increased from Rs 4.5 lakh to Rs 6 lakh.
