Madras University’s online courses to get approval in one week

After all the 48 courses of the Madras University failed to get UGC’s approval, the university’s Institute of Distance Education (IDE) has clarified that it has rectified all the errors and defects and is expecting the approval of the UGC within one week for all the courses.

The University also clarified that it is one of the few Universities of the nation which is qualified to offer UG and PG programs through Distance education as per the guidelines of the UGC. Last month, the university face allegations that is running distance education courses without the prescribed number of faculties as mentioned in the UGC distance education regulations. It was also reported that if the UGC had closed all the courses then the university would have lost 7 percent of its total revenue.

According to the reports from the Deccan Chronicles, in order to overcome the shortage of the faculty members, the syndicate of the university decided to transfer the faculty members from the regular department to the IDE in order to get the UGC approval for the courses.

The official from the Madras University said “the University has rectified the defects and awaiting for the UGC approval for the remaining UG and PG programs. The approval for the remaining courses are expected within one week”
