The state of Kerala may have some good news in the offing in the coming days.

The state's long standing demand to have an IIT got a major boost when a 5 member team from the Centre undertook an inspection of the site proposed by the state Government for the premier institute. The site is situated in the Palakkad district of the state.

According to the team members, the report on the matter in discussion would be out in a couple of weeks. The team was led by the additional secretary in the technical education department, K Amarjith Singh. The visit was paid at the Kunissery village panchayat, in the Palakkad district.

The state Government has zeroed in on a 1,200 acre piece of land in the village for the development of the IIT campus in the state.

Post the visit, the members of the team met the state's education minister, PK Abdu Rabb and the leader of opposition, VS Achuthanandan. Mr. Achuthanandan represents the Malamapuzha seat in the state assembly, under which the site is located.

According to Singh, the decision can be expected in less than a fortnight.
