Recently, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has started a new initiative for the development of courses like animal welfare sciences on the Ballabhgarh campus of the university National Institute of Animal Welfare (NIAW) Haryana.
National Institute of Animal Welfare (NIAW) is established as a subordinate office of the Government of India under Ministry of Environment and Forests in the sprawling campus of 8 acres of land at Ballabhgarh, Faridabad, and Haryana. NIAW was set up to meet the education and training needs of the animal welfare sector across the country. By introducing this type of courses more and more skilled individuals will be prepared to work in every relevant position across the nation.
This initiative is started for the motive to introduce various courses that prepare the skilled force for taking up specialized jobs in various zoos, municipalities, slaughter houses and veterinary hospitals that are present in the country. According to the announcement, this will be a certification course in the development and animal welfare of animals. Details about admissions, the eligibility criteria etc. for the course will be announced soon on Wednesday, June 29, 2016, in the presence of MHRD minister Smriti Irani and environment minister Prakash Javadekar, JNU signed the agreement with NIAW for this initiative.
Environment minister Prakash Javadekar said, "The total cost of the project for the first year is Rs. 88 lakh. More than 200 students are expected to be enrolled for diploma and certificate courses in the first year. These courses are aimed at providing a direction to the youth for employment in the sector." Javadekar added, "Such courses are already in practice in countries like Australia and New Zealand, and now JNU in India will conduct it."
