Students hoarding for getting into India's premium engineering institution is losing its charm as the field is touching its saturation point and students find it difficult to find a suitable job in the field.

A small look at the numbers in IIT JEE

"¢In 2015, 56,000 students dropped from the preparation while the number remains 27,000 in 2016.

"¢However, the number of students in the two part test is rising since 2008.

Why students are opting out of Engineering?

"¢Students are breaking the stereotypes and opting for other streams as engineering has fewer jobs now.

"¢Former principal of Delhi's Modern School, Barakhamba Road said "More parents and students are now willing to experiment rather than take the traditional route."

"¢Students are opting for mathematics and economic as they can easily opt for professional courses like MBA.

"¢Vaidyanathan said "Students who want to do an MBA later don't want to waste an additional year doing engineering. They can do Economics honors or anything else."

"¢Naveen Maheshwari, director of Allen Institute said "Engineers are not getting good jobs as earlier. There has been a reduction in the number of students coming here."

Looking at the current heat of the situation the government is worried and concerned about the problem and has scheduled a meeting with the IIT council next month.
