ISRO and IIT-D to set up space technology cell

Space Technology cell will focus its research on the projects in the domain of space technology.

Indian Institute of Technology-Delhi has collaborated with the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) to set up space technology cell. The cell will focus its research on the projects in the domain of space technology. It is also proposed that IIT-D as an institute must become an academic partner of ISRO in the research areas such as AI, nanotechnology, functional textiles, smart manufacturing or any area of joint interest.

The institute will celebrate its 50th convocation on November 2 and ISRO chairman will be the guest of honor. On the occasion, President’s gold medal will be conferred to Kacham Praneeth (a Bachelor of Technology student) Director’s gold medal will be conferred to Mallika Singh (B. Tech in Biochemical Engineering & Biotechnology) and Shankar Dayal Sharma gold medal will be conferred to Himakshi Barsiwal (M. Tech in Chemical Engineering).

The institute will also release a special commemorative stamp and a special cover to mark the 50th convocation. V Ramgopal Rao, Director, IIT Delhi said, “This is the Golden Jubilee Convocation of IIT Delhi. We are very happy to announce the Billion Dollar Endowment drive, which was inaugurated by the President of India on October 31, 2019 in Rashtrapati Bhawan with an initial commitment of Rs 255 crore by our alumni. Our alumni are entirely spearheading this fundraising drive. We are also in the process of building professional teams for this purpose.”


“I am happy to report that the institute is investing over INR 250 crores in augmenting its research facilities. Over Rs 750 crore infrastructure projects are currently underway on the campus. We are excited about the progress we are able to make in all our endeavors.
