It seems that candidates applying for bank jobs can't have
it easy for them, as PM Narendra Modi recently said there is no need to have
interviews for lower level posts but Finance Ministry took another step. It
asked chief executives of all 27 Public Sector Banks (PSBs) to tighten the
written exam procedure, states PTI reports.
The Department of Financial Services said that PSBs might look for other options to make it tough for candidates like including psychometric tests in place of interviews.
On November 13, a meeting was held where it was recommended to eliminate interviews for junior level posts in PSBs by a Committee of Secretaries chaired by the Cabinet Secretary. Thus, PSBs were directed to take immediate steps to do away with interviews by December 31st.
PM Narendra Modi awarded a New Year gift to the youth by announcing that there will be no interviews for central government jobs in Class 3 and Class 4 categories with a view to remove corruption. However, the Department of Personnel and Training suggested that tests such as skill tests or physical tests would continue as these are different from interviews. Assessment of candidates will not be done on the basis of marks but these tests would be qualifiers for candidates.
For those posts, which a ministry or department still wants to continue with interviews, they need to seek an approval of the minister or minister in-charge with a detailed proposal seeking for exemption that needs to be sent to DoPT. By January 7, all the ministries seeking exemption need to send a consolidated report to DoPT.
