The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) is an agency that furnishes public weather data. There are two stations one in Palam and the other in Safdarjung. But the information provided is not real time. Thus Dr RB Singh, HOD, DU's Geography department information informed that due to the inadequacy of the IMD,DU has decided to set up its own weather station.

The micro climate of Delhi will be accurately recorded indicating the humidity, wind speed, rainfall and pressure. It will provide detailed weather updates.

It will be the first of its kind in any educational institute in India

The data for some areas is unclear making the research work complex. The study of the micro climate and the trends in the climate change will be aided with the setting up of this station.

The people in our country do not have an exact and authentic knowledge of the weather reports and hence they cannot take the precautions accordingly.

The predictions shall be accurate but this is impossible as the data is inaccurate.

The basic reason for this problem is the lack of the desired number of weather stations as the reliability of the data increases only with a larger number of stations.

It has been stationed on the terrace of Delhi School of Economics and the total cost incurred in its construction is Rs 3 lakh. The department's undertaking has also appealed the IMD.A daily comparison is being made with the IMD data. The department will also approach the IMD to include its data in their daily forecast.

Further they also plan to start nine more weather stations. Once the weather station succeeds the department plans to set the weather stations in 10 colleges of DU.

The colleges are situated in such a way that they cover the entire city approximately.

The working will be managed by the teachers and students of the department who are to monitor the weather on a daily and hourly basis. They will also initiate to make the data public and also publish weather bulletins as it will be beneficial to the general public as well as the researchers and scientists.

This will be done once the accuracy test is carried out.
