A few higher instructive establishments in India produce quality examination, yet they have to enhance their "perception index" so that they can climb up the International rankings and earn prestige, the government said on Monday.
While responding to a question in the lower house of the Parliament, the HRD minister Smriti Irani said that although institute such as the IISc and the IITs have been known for their high quality of research which is at par with the best in the world, these haven't been able to grab the top positions in world University rankings.
Irani further remarked that it is on the basis "a large portion of these ranking systems connect considerable significance to recognition".
"...Since large portions of these ranking system append considerable significance to perception, (consequently) in spite of faring admirably in research, many institutions from India have not secured positions according to their performance," opined Irani.
The HRD minister said that while concentrating on their qualities, these institutions also have to improve their perception at the world stage in order to ensure better their worldwide rankings which they thoroughly deserve.
She, in any case, included that the rankings of Indian institutes are consistently progressing.
IISc, Bangalore, and IIT-Delhi have been put at No.147 and No.179, separately, in QS World University Rankings for 2015-16, Irani said.
