In an extremely important announcement, the organizer of GATE 2015, IIT Kanpur, has extended the deadline for the application for GATE 2015 by a couple of weeks. This announcement came after a number of GATE 2015 aspirants from Jammu & Kashmir made an appeal to the HRD Minister Smt Smriti Zubin Irani regarding the same. They sought to extend the deadline citing that after unprecedented damage to the state's infrastructure, they won't be able to submit all the required documents on time as their colleges and Banks are still to resume proper operations. The Minister asked IIT Kanpur to consider their appeal and hence the announcement was made.
The candidates can now submit their application with requisite documents and Bank challan till 14th October 2014, as opposed to the earlier deadline of 30th September. The scores obtained in the GATE examination act as benchmark for admission in Indian Institutes to pursue highly sought after PG programs such as M.Tech, M.E and PhD. A number of Public Sector Undertakings and Private companies also use this score to screen candidates in the recruitment process.
