Another technical giant to enter the education industry- as Prime Minister Narendra Modi to lay the foundation stone of the campus of Indian Institute of Information Technology Guwahati (IIIT-G). He will do so during his visit to Assam on Tuesday.

As per Director and mentor of IIIT-G, Gautam Barua- the prime minister will address students of IIIT-G along with students of IIT and students of all central technical institutions in the North-East region.

He said that Modi's address will be transmitted through National Knowledge Network to other institutions.

 Along with Modi, other biggies to attend the function are- The Assam Governor, Chief Minister, Union HRD minister Smriti Irani, state education minister Sarat Borkotoky.

Modi is not only to address IITians but he will also address a BJP youth programme here and a public rally at Kokrajhar tomorrow.

 The youth rally at Khanapara will be addressed prior to the IIIT-G programme.

The PM will begin his programme with the Kokrajhar town, confirmed the Kokrajhar district administration sources.

According to Barua, IIIT-G is set up in NPPP (not-for-profit public private partnership) mode by the central government with its campus at Sontola Gaon, 4 km from the airport here towards Goalpara, with an area of 70 acres.

He also confirmed that temporarily, institute is operating from Assam Textile Institute campus at Ambari in Guwahati. The construction work has begun and buildings will be ready by end of 2017.

It started its operations in August 2013 and currently has three undergraduate batches with a total strength of 179 students.

As stated it's in NPPP mode, so its partners constitute- central government (57.5 per cent funding share), Assam Government (35 per cent), Tata Consultancy Services, Oil India Limited, Srei Infrastructure Finance Ltd and Amtron Ltd (1.875 per cent each).
