The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) will launch the satellite Pratham, designed by the students of IIT Bombay on September 26 from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota.

About the satellite:

The satellite which weighs around 10 kilograms will be launched using the four stage Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) of ISRO

It will be in the orbit for four months and its main mission is to measure the total electron count in the Ionosphere.

Expert's view:

Prof Hemendra Arya of the Aerospace Engineering Department told TOI, "We have received a message from ISRO that the launch is on September 26. If it is rescheduled on account of weather factors or due to any other reason, it will be postponed only by a day or so."

More about the project:

The initiative to build a satellite was started in 2007, after IIT-B and ISRO entered into collaboration. The project was again revived in 2012 with a new batch of students, but it missed the launch in 2012 due to technical glitches.
