It is a proud moment for the IIM fraternity as Dr. Pulak Gosh, Professor, Quantitative Methods & Information Systems Area, Indian Institute of Management Bangalore, has been appointed as a member of the Data Privacy Advisory Group of Global Pulse "“ the UN Secretary-General's Big Data innovation initiative. Professor Ghosh is the only expert from India on the panel which comprises of other international experts as well. The Data Privacy Advisory Group will advocate responsible use of Big Data for sustainable development and humanitarian action.
An academic Fellow of the Center for Advanced Financial Research and Learning, Professor Ghosh is also involved in Financial Econometrics research relating to Big Data. Big Data and Analytics are his areas of interest for teaching and research.
The Data Privacy Advisory Group of Global Pulse, to which Professor Ghosh has been appointed, will use their expertise and knowledge to inform the formation of guidelines and practices that help to alleviate risks associated with privacy in the Big Data analytics field. They would also ensure that the utility for global development policy-planning or humanitarian action is preserved in the process.
Robert Kirkpatrick, Director, UN Global Pulse, said: "Professor Ghosh, with international leaders from public sector, civil society, private sector and the legal community, will participate in an ongoing privacy dialogue, provide feedback on proposed approaches and engage in a privacy outreach campaign."
