BHUBANESWAR: The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE) shall undertake massive overhauls in its curriculum, teaching paradigms and infrastructure and modernization. This decision was taken at the board's 58th annual general meeting here on Wednesday.

The meeting included educators from ICSE affiliated schools from across the country, to discuss the roadmap towards implementing the decision on revamping the system.

K V Vincent, secretary-treasurer of Association of Schools for the Indian School Certificate (ASISC), said that the ways of communicating and inculcating knowledge has changed drastically in the past few years. As a result, all aspects of our life are getting tremendously affected. Hence, as educators and teachers, it becomes  our responsibility to accept these changes and mould our system to fit perfectly in the changing scenario.

The meeting included participants from 1200 ICSE affiliated schools, represented by their principals. The immediate intention is to revamp the syllabus and the examination system as per the current need. This year's theme is 'Education in a changing world'.

Governor of Odisha SC Jamir, who was inaugurating the event pointed out that the ways of learning have changed significantly in the past few years. They are no longer limited to classrooms or books. The usage of many other media internet, case studies, modelling etc. has been very profound. However, inspite of these introductions, the role of a teacher can never be eliminated.

He focused on the need of inculcating values in students. He specifically mentioned the need of teachers and schools in the present day scenario to take lead in teaching values to students in their public as well as private lives.

Vincent said that various issues like grades and marks, smart classes, e-learning, emphasis on practical studies in addition to theory, upgradation of laboratories and extracurricular activities, shall be discussed during the sessions of the meeting. They shall also discuss the need of a teacher-training center for teachers-in-office. The positive or negative repercussions associated with these changes, as well as their implementation shall also be talked about.

In Odisha, there are 75 schools affiliated to ICSE board of which seven are in the city including the St. Josephs Convent School, Stewart School, Ruchika High School, Venketeshwar English Medium School, Loyola school and Seventh-day Adventist Higher Secondary School.
