The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) is demanding the status of Post-graduation for the candidates who have qualified the CA and also said that CA-intermediate should be given the status of graduation.

Regarding the issue, ICAI has sought the intervention of the ministry of corporate affairs. In a letter to the ministry, it said that “chartered accountancy qualification as equivalent to post graduation and CA-intermediate to be treated equivalent to graduate degree in the university education system”.

The letter said that the CA-intermediate course used to be considered equivalent to the graduation by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) in 1984 and was considered a subtle background for pursuing PG in commerce or other disciplines in order to be eligible for the PhD programs. As of now, CA is accepted by the 101 Indian universities, 2 IITs and 6 IIMs as a required qualification in order to pursue PhD.
