A new judgment was passed by the Kerela High Court stating
that Kendriya Vidyalaya cannot discriminate against the children of High
Court's staff in the matter of admission under the government quota.
A petition was filed by MG Antony of Kumbalangi, who is a personal assistant to a high court judge and the judgment was passed in this matter regarding the admission of his six-year-old son Aldus Antony.
According to MG Antony, he wanted admission of his son for class I in the Kendriya Vidyalaya schools run by Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), namely KV INS Dronacharya, KV-I, KV-II, and KV Port Trust. There, in the application form under category for parent's employment, options provided were for central government, autonomous body of central government, state government, autonomous body of state government, and others...
Antony filed the application form under the state government category based on a service certificate that had been issued by the high court. To this, Kendriya Vidyalaya disagreed and regarded him as working in a private organization, while a few others included him in the category of autonomous body of state government. Thus, he was denied admission for his son in the year 2015-16.
Antony's advocate Murali Purushothaman stated in High Court that an employee of the high court who draws salary from the consolidated fund of the state will come under the category of state government.
