Haryana government universities may increase the retirement age of teachers to 65

A five-member committee set up by Haryana government is proposing that the retirement age of the university teachers should be increased to 65 years. The committee was set up with the purpose of reviewing standard of higher and technical education in the state. Recommendations have also been made to increase the tenure of the vice-chancellors from 3 to 5 years or till they reach the age of 70 years
The committee has put its report forward and has asked the government to follow the recommendations of the Center's Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan.

List of recommendations made by the committee

  • A minimum of 25 hours per week must be devoted by every student of the university in classroom or laboratory.
  • Every student must possess some skills other than their regular study subjects.
  • Every university in state must carry out work in uniform manner and draft for the same has been presented.
  • A formula was also proposed according to which each university will get funds depending upon the number of teachers, employees and students.

Before making these proposals the committee studied education system in Haryana for more than eight months.
