Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal has approved the proposal to entitle the maternity benefits to the thousands of the guest teachers which are working in the schools run by Delhi government.

According to the official order 'It has been decided to extend the benefits under the Maternity Benefits Act, 1961 and Maternity Benefits (Amendment) Act, 2017 to all guest teachers working in Directorate of Education, Delhi Government.'

The Delhi school tribunal pulled up a private school for terminating the services of one of the guest teachers when she asked for maternity leave and ordered that she be reinstated by September 30.

For some time now, The Delhi Guest Teachers Association has been demanding the regularization of the 17,000 guest teachers along with the pay parity and maternity leave benefits in comparison to the permanent teachers.
