Tax benefits should be allowed under “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” scheme to the parents who spend on the education of their girl child. This would help the government to create awareness towards the same.
Though India holds a renowned position in education industry all over the world, yet tax benefits for students and parents are not up to the mark. Following suggestions should be taken into consideration in order to encourage parents to invest in the education of their children,
·The current limit of 1, 50,000 under section 80C is generally exhausted in PFs and repayment of housing loans. So an additional deduction should be allowed for the tuition fees.
·This would help the government to raise awareness about girl education, under the scheme of “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao”.
·Currently, a tax deduction is only allowed for the interest paid on the education loan. But the deduction should also be allowed on the repayment of the principal of the education loan, like that of the housing loan under section 80C.
·Deduction of Rs. 150 per child per month towards child education allowance should be raised to at least Rs. 1500 per month as it is not sufficient.
·The taxpayers, who sponsor girl child education, should also be allowed to avail special philanthropic deductions.
