The Google EdTech team organized a conference for educators, held at the American School of Bombay on 1st and 2nd December, 212. The conference aimed to empower educators by using Google Apps effectively in education. Such a workshop was held for the first time in India by the EdTech team. This was done in collaboration with InOpen Technologies, an IIT Bombay spinoff. It is to be noted that IIT Bombay and InOpen have come up with Computer Science curriculum after 6 years of intensive research and are currently impacting more than 4,00,000 children across the country.

The 'Google Apps for Education India Summit' focused on integrating Google Apps in Education to promote learning and achievement in students, teachers and school management. The event featured Google Certified Teachers and representatives from Google's Apps for Education team.

The summit included two keynote presentations from respected Googlers, Suan Yeo and Rushton Hurley, and other noted Educators. The presenters conducted sessions on Deployment & Management of cloud apps for education. Some of the familiar ones are Google Docs.

Suan Yeo, who heads Google Enterprise Education, spoke about the high value and importance of education, and how technology is that empowering tool that helps realize the former. Google is able to add top quality value to education by creating readily available free applications for use in education all over the world. Times have changed, and Suan does believe, "How we learned is not how our students learn", thus it is important to "Teach with technology, not teach technology". This is in sync with InOpen's Computer Masti ideology based on the TPACK (Technological, Pedagogical, Content Knowledge) model which operates on the FOSS (free and open source software) philosophy, just as Suan encourages Open Technology.

Presenting his talk on Thoughtful Technology, Mr. Rupesh Kumar Shah, CEO and Co-Founder, InOpen Technologies said, "Thanks to Google, technology is changing the way students across the globe learn. However, technology is not the path, it's just the enabler". In his session, he took a step back, while planning ahead in Google style, to speak about the right way to learn Computers or Technology.

According to the Edtech team at Google, 1.5 lakh businesses in India are already using Google Apps and now the focus is to target schools. The Google-EdTech team wants to deploy, integrate and use Google Apps for Education to promote student learning and achievement in both K-12 and higher education.

According to the Google Apps for Education Summit participants, the conference is the "Best professional development" course for them. They learn, they explore new technology and network with educators from around the world.
