Google recently joined the hands with the NCERT in order to integrate a course on digital citizenship and safety in the ICT (Information and communication technology) curriculum.
The idea behind the course is to mark the safe internet day 2018 and to lay more emphasis on making a web a safer place for all the people. A curriculum has also been created by the Google for the teachers of the schools so that the teachers can help the students learn more about the digital citizenship in their classroom.
This launch will help the students learn more about on 'how to become responsible digital citizens'. The course will teach them about the social, ethical and legal aspects of internet safety.
Commenting on the collaboration, Sunita Mohanty, Director, Trust, and Safety, Google India said, “While the internet has made life easier for everyone and offers so many opportunities, online users need to be aware of the possible negative experiences that they may incur on the web. Through our course integration with NCERT, we aim to catch children young and teach them the essentials of staying safe, while exploring the online world.”
Dr. Amarendra Behera, Joint Director, CIET – NCERT said, “In an increasingly connected world, the internet is fast emerging as a learning space for our students and it's our responsibility to provide them with a safe learning environment. We hope this initiative will prepare our students to identify the threats and ensure a safe web experience online.”
The syllabus for the online safety is divided into four themes:
- Being smart
- Being safe
- Being a digital citizen
- Being future ready
