On Monday, Education minister Vasudev Devnani said that all
the upper primary schools in Rajasthan need to keep the Gita from the next
academic session in their libraries. This step was taken to saffronize
education at government schools.
Coincidently, on Monday, it was Gita Divas when the minister made this statement (at a function in Ajmer) about keeping Gita in schools.
With 13000 government schools in Rajasthan having libraries, it will be an opportunity for the students to lead a calm and balanced life by reading it. It's a source of guidance and support for all, suggested the minister.
This is not a first move by the minister for saffronizing education in Rajasthan, earlier, he issued an order stating that Surya Namaskar to be mandatory for students. However, this was criticized ad challenged in the court and he had to make it optional. He was appointed in 2014 and since then, he has been taking controversies.
